the Readings: Your List of Strategic Communication Characteristics
- Early in the course, I'm going to give you several readings that bring
out several characteristics of effective communication as ancient cultures
understood it. Even though our technology has changed significantly, these
basic characteristics have not changed in thousands of years. As you go
through these readings, I want you to keep your own list of strategic
communication characteristics.
- Analysis of Samples
- Throughout the course, I'll have you bring in samples of communication that
you find interesting. We'll discuss them in class to bring up key points about
effective communication strategies.
- Student Writing Samples
- It's not enough to have you critique communication from someone else. I
also want you to bring in samples of your own writing that we can talk
over in class.

Oral Presentations/Research Projects
- The oral presentations and research projects are the heart of this course. Here you put
together the skills you gathered and work to master strategic
communication for yourself.
